LTN Picnic at Stanbrook Abbey Janet Baird
The Stanbrook September meeting took place on Saturday
September 13th from 11am to 3pm. We sat round the long table in
the Guest kitchen at the Abbey and had a really valuable discussion
about survival strategies for lone twins. Because we are
a small group we don’t split up into different types of loss and our
discussion is ‘organ is’ as we don’t tell our stories round the table in
turn. It seems to work out really well and it encourages meaningful
deep discussion.
There was no Church service at 12.30pm as usual as the community
at Stanbrook were on ‘staycation.’ That meant Sister Julian could join
us for our shared lunch. Some of us did venture outside to eat our
lunches in the garden outside the guest kitchen, but it was a bit too
chilly!
After lunch we went outside to pay our respects to Joan Woodward’s
memorial peony which is planted on the terrace at the Abbey near
the church-under the watchful eye of St Benedict! He was a twin son
that feels right and proper. We walked down the steep Abbey drive
to see the Lone Twin Apple Trees in the orchard. The apples were
ripe and ready to pick so we took some home with us. The
apples are small but beautifully crisp to eat!
Back at the Abbey we had An art session with Sister Julian who
taught us how to paint flowers! None of us thought we were artists
but she showed us how to use tiny steps and different brush strokes
to create our flowers! See photos of our efforts. Craft is a really good
activity for lone twin meeting as while our hands are busy our
minds seem to free up and the discussion flows freely!
LTN meeting London 11th October 2025
Thirty four members attended the meeting at the newly refurbished
Camden Town
Hall on Saturday 11 th October. We had to compete with no fewer
than 11 weddings taking place in the building that day! We were
delighted to welcome members from Germany and Switzerland. The
limited facilities did not prevent some very valuable conversations
taking place in the stage of loss groups, the new members group and
the suicide loss group. The committee held a meeting during the
morning and several exciting new plans were made for next year and
beyond. However, some of our committee members are rather
stretched due to other commitments and health issues so we would
really like to hear from any member who would like to join the
committee.

Harrogate meeting 25th October 2025
Fifteen members attended the wonderfully relaxed meeting at St.
Michael’s Hospice. They came from across the north of England and
south to Nottingham. It was fantastic to be back in such a beautiful
venue in glorious clear sunshine, albeit in the first cold snap of the
autumn. Sadly, there were no kites flying over the grounds this time
but we spotted six of them hovering over some nearby woodland
as we drove away. Team Harrogate (Janet, Sophia, Sandra, Fran
Lynn and Sheila) did a great job in organising the meeting, this time
following a more relaxed format. We simply divided
into three groups and discussed topics provided by the organisers.
These are a really great starting point for members to talk about
whatever is relevant to them at the present time.
Everyone enjoyed the ‘bring and try’ picnic lunch and at the end of
the meeting, Jill’s famous chocolate cake! It was so good to
reconnect with ‘old’ LTN friends and to make newer members feel
welcome.
